On September 13 we again attended the Open Day of the 3rd HQ Battalion in Mautern. A year ago unfortunately we had to skip this invitation, but this time we could schedule it as part of our return trip from Wels the weekend before.
The layout of the exhibit resulted in one of the 14th Tank Battalion's Leopard 2 main battle tanks placed right next to us - and Col (ret) Walter Posch couldn't resist the temptation to "adopt" it. But don't worry - these large cats will not come into our collection for years to come, the Austrian Leos are currently undergoing a major modernization program.
As we had the opportunity to park our vehicles in Mautern between our return trip from Wels and this Open Day, the HQ Battalion's Driving School garages for one week again looked like 30 years ago:
The 2026 Open Day of the 3rd HQ Battalion has already been scheduled - on September 11 next year we will again be here for sure!
