12th Anniversary of „On Wheels and Tracks“ with Special Contributions from the Traditionsverband

From May 31 until June 2, the Vienna Military History Museum for the 12th time hosted the traditional military vehicle gathering „On Wheels and Tracks“, and more than 10000 visitors saw a huge display of „what kept the Army moving“. As our quite large team of US re-enactors this year was in Normady to participate in the 75th „D-day“ anniversary, the Traditionsverband had been asked to fill the gap – and boy did we rise to the occasion!

Our special presentation this year was dedicated to „Steyr-Daimler-Puch in the Austrian Army“, and the 19 vehicles that we brought to the event marked the biggest presentation by the Traditionsverband to date. All Steyr truck models were on display, from the type 380 via the 480, 580 and 680 all the way to the last true „Steyr“ truck introduced in the Austrian Army – the 12M18.

Obviously, we did not forget the „smaller“ members in the family, and so the Haflingers and Pinzgauers participated in the show as well, expertly moderated by our friend Peter Krumhaar.

A second highlight of this year’s event was the presentation of four out of the (known) six surviving „Motormulis“ in Austria. We especially appreciate the support by the Museum as well as the Army Logistics Center Vienna, who transported the only surviving „Postbus“ Muli from Salzburg to Vienna for this display. Another „civilian“ guest was the M60 Motormuli of the Hacker Family, which gave testimony that the 70-year old technology still performs perfectly in every-day forest Service.
