For the first time, this year the two traditional military vehicle gatherings „Slowakian Sands“ and „Sahara“ will be held together from August 12 to 18. Registration needs to be made directly with the organizers.
On September 14 and 15 we will open our Prottes garages for the sixth time already to celebrate our Annual Fall Gathering. For the first time, this year we will be supported by the 3rd Reconnaissance and Artillery Battalion from Mistelbach, who together with us will present army motorization from the 1950s until today. Our facilities will be open to the public on Saturday and Sunday from 9am until 5pm, our field kitchen will provide traditional meals, and we are looking forward to welcoming members, friends and everybody who is interested in the history of army motorization.
Today, the Army Logistics Center Vienna transported the Lohner-Motormuli of ÖBB-Postbus Ltd from its Salzburg home to Vienna. This unique vehicle was manufactured in 1951, fitted with a body from the Lohner works and utilized in Tyrol until 1956, mainly for transporting tourists on the Arlberg. Today, it is still property of the Austrian Postal Service (now ÖBB-Postbus Ltd), in 2003 it was overhauled by the Army Workshops in the Vienna Arsenal, and it is normally kept in a garage in Salzburg.
From May 31 until June 2, the Vienna Military History Museum for the 12th time hosted the traditional military vehicle gathering „On Wheels and Tracks“, and more than 10000 visitors saw a huge display of „what kept the Army moving“. As our quite large team of US re-enactors this year was in Normady to participate in the 75th „D-day“ anniversary, the Traditionsverband had been asked to fill the gap – and boy did we rise to the occasion!
Two weeks are left until the 12th big military vehicle gathering of the Vienna Museum of Military History „On Wheels and Tracks“, and we are starting our transports. The following days will see the arrival of the whole Steyr truck family from Type 380 via 480, 580, 680 to 12M18 together with some rare prototypes and the „small brothers" Haflinger and Pinzgauer. Some rare treats will complete this year’s special presentation.
