"On Wheels and Tracks" Again Cancelled for 2023

"On Wheels and Tracks"

It's now official - unfortunately "On Wheels and Tracks" (the large military vehicle gathering hosted by the Vienna Museum of Military History) will again be cancelled in 2023. We hope that this meeting will return in 2024 in a new setting (held on the Army Proving Grounds in Bruckneudorf).

Together Again After 25 Years

GenMjr (ret) Wolfgang Jilke with "his" former command vehicle

During our 2022 Annual Gathering we could present GenMjr (ret) Wolfgang Jilke "his" former command vehicle from the time he commanded the 9th Tank Grenadiers Brigade. After the Brigade had been disbanded in 1997, the APC served for a few more years in an Armored Engineer Battalion until it was discharged from active service in 2010 and believed lost. Today it is back in its original condition and parked - together with its "brethren" from the 3rd and 4th Tank Grenadiers Brigades - in Prottes. The link to a short interview with GenMjr Jilke is here (German version only):

HKFW Youtube Channel Reaches 1000 Subscribers

As of October 23, our Youtube channel has reached its first milestone. Almost exactly one year after its start, it reached one thousand subscribers. Considering how relatively small our target audience is, we are proud of achieving this goal.

The channel has regular updates on vehicle presentations, HKFW news as well as announcements of upcoming and reports of past events.

For all who have not subscribed yet, here's the link to the channel:

First Panel Discussion of the Traditionsverband

On the evening prior to our 2022 Fall Gathering, we held our first panel discussion on the topic "How the Armies on both sides of the Iron Curtain envisioned a potential conflict at the height of the Cold War". Led by H.Spoerker and J.Neuhuber, MjrGen (ret) Karl Wendy, Col Walter Posch, Ludwig Francl and Franz Brödl brought this time back to life. Especially the memories of Col Posch and Ludwig Francl presented a fascinating inside as they both happened to be serving as tank platoon commanders on both sides of the border during this period.

AirPower Celebrates its 25-Year Anniversary - And we were there

As in the past nine years, we again attended the AirPower at the Hinterstoisser military airfield in Zeltweg. By invitation of the Military Aviation Museum we provided eight historic military vehicles and displayed the history of ground forces motorization over the last 70 years. A big shout-out to the whole team that supported the massive transportation efforts and ensured a professional appearance of the Traditionsverband at the biggest air show in Europe!
